All my life I have been a quiet observer. With an undergraduate degree in Biology, graduate studies in Human Genetics Research, I unexpectedly found myself living in coastal North Carolina. For many years, I tried to find work in the scientific field without success. At 40, I decided to return to the local community college and pursue a business degree. With a curious twist in the path, I ended up taking a photography class...WOW! The camera released what I saw into a form people could look at and understand. I completed my Associate Degree in Photographic Technology in 1997. This is how it all began. Now 10 years later, I own and operate a small Portrait Studio and Fine Art Gallery in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. My work has won numerous awards in the Mid-Atlantic Region and has been exhibited in several museums and galleries including the Rawls Museum in Courtland, Virginia, The Fayetteville Museum of Art, Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina and The CEPA Gallery in Buffalo, New York. Currently, I have a piece on exhibit in "Images '09" the Onslow Art Society's Fall Juried Show and in the 2009 NC Photographers Biennial Juried Exhibition at the Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center at Meredith College, Raleigh, NC. A recent award includes first place in photography at The Morehead City Sesquicentennial (150 years) Art Walk. Kathy has one son, Zane, who is a junior at Elon University. Zane also enjoys photography and has two photographs accepted in the 2009 NC Photographers Biennial Juried Exhibition at the Gaddy-Hamrick Art Center at Meredith College, Raleigh, NC.
